There is only one person you will have to bear for the rest of your life: yourself. That's why being alone is so difficult.
Even in the mountains, and not just because of safety. Being alone strips you naked, it makes you understand who you are, what is your
value, the things that matter in life. Probably no one has explored solo climbing like Hansjörg Auer, whose memorable feat
on the "fish route" has forever marked the history of this very peculiar kind of mountaineering.
"The hardest thing to do when you're doing free solo
is not the ascent. It is to go back home."
Hansjörg Auer
Why? Because when loneliness strips you naked you understand the importance of the relationships you build with people around you.
“No turning back” is an introspective and epic film, delicate and powerful: there is not only vertical life,
there is not only feat, performance. There is an all-round discovery of what makes a life worth living.
Austrian Alpinist Hansjörg Auer embraced sports climbing, multi-pitch climbing, alpinism, and crack climbing from an early age.
His accomplishments include a stunning 37-pitch slab on the Marmolada South Face in the Italian Dolomites, the first ascent of “Waiting for Godot” in Patagonia’s Torres del Paine, as well as the ascent of Kunyang Chhish East (7400m) in the Karakorum Mountains.
